I thought I should give you a glimpse of where we are living now. We live in a very exclusive part of Lubumbashi called ‘Golf’, where the mission home is. All homes in this area are walled and gated, and have 24 hour security. So the first thing you see coming down the street is a long wall, and a heavy black gate. A honk on the horn and the security men inside open the gate for you. At that point you see the security bldg. and a row of cars:
The Mission Home, where Pres & Sister McMullen live, where they have additional bedrooms for visitors and guests, and rooms for meetings, etc.
just past the mission home and to the right are three more homes. One is taken by one mission couple, the Eastman’s, the other two are rented by people not associated with the Mission; one works for the local mine and the other… in in telecommunications or something.
Directly in front of the gate, and after the cars, is a two-story bldg. The bottom floor is the mission office where the two missionary couples (Wright’s, Eastman’s) work, along with a couple of locals; Emmanuel and Justin. We currently live above the office.
As you walk around the back to the entrance to our apartment, there are two other buildings: one houses the local sister missionaries (to the right), the one on the left is the laundry and storage.
In the rear of the office is a back door to the office and another door to our apartment, that opens onto the kitchen.
For us, it is a good sized kitchen, and has everything. Then comes the most dangerous part of our mission experience so far: going up (and down) the stairs~
The steps are so uneven that we always trip… I am safe, as I always trip going UP the stairs, while Terri always has problems going DOWN the stairs! We go through the door and onto our little patio, then through another door into our living room.
You go through a short hall and into the bedroom and bath. We also have another small balcony in the back.
They have set-up a great little office for Terri where she can coordinate the medical care of the missionaries.
She is already hard at work, creating new ways to track the health care of each missionary, trying to keep track of costs and billing (with Elder Wright’s help), etc.
